I have to start off this month by thanking everyone who came out and helped us make the 2007 Bow-Wow Bash a great day of canine fun. From our amazing group of business sponsors to the Girl Scouts and Seniors of San Juan High School, thank you all. The event was terrific fun and we could never have done it without all of your help. We hope that you our readers will mark your calendars for our next day of four-legged family fun at the 5th annual Animal October Fest coming this Fall on Saturday, October 13. I really do enjoy hosting these events as it is quite special to see all the loving dog owners and of course the interesting parade of canine characters that come out. Watching dogs play is one of my favorite past times so thank you all for bringing your pooches out for a day of fun in the country. With Summer upon us we will all have many more opportunities to get outdoors with our pets. I hope that you will take the time to consider how the threats of Summer impact our furry friends. Please read the article from the United Animal Nations on page 7 that talks about keeping pets safe this season. Also, each year I feel compelled to write about my own experiences with dogs in nature so in keeping with the theme of Summer safety please see my article on page 10 titled “The Call of the Wild May Be Singing To Your Dog.” Of course if you are looking for a new furry friend you can find some really beautiful Labrador Retrievers in need of loving forever homes on page 8 in our Adoption Alley section. And for those of you looking for something fun to do the Sacramento SPCA Doggy Dash is coming up on June 9th, so grab your leash and running shoes and join in the fun while supporting this great organization. As the final days of Spring pass and we move into Summer I wish you all many fun days and nights with your pets. Whether you are taking your pet on vacation with your family or just taking them on a walk around the block I thank you on behalf of your animal friend. Keeping them near and dear and safe has never been more important. And of course, if you are traveling with your pet by car please, please do not leave your pet in your car unattended, not even for one minute. With Sacramento’s scorching summer heat cars can quickly become death traps for our furry friends. Of course please visit our advertisers for all your pet related needs. We could not print this publication without their support so be sure and tell them you found them in the Pet Gazette.
